The U.S. is a strong contender to clinch the gold medal in Mixed Skeet Team, an event making its Olympic debut. Three-time Olympic gold medalist Vincent Hancock and Tokyo Olympian Austen Smith are among of the two U.S. teams ready to compete in the event. Smith and Hancock earned gold in the event at the 2023 ISSF World Championships.
Hancock has not only been training for his fifth Olympics but has also been coaching at the range he co-owns in north Texas. Hancock is Smith and Conner Prince’s coach. Both Smith and Prince qualified for Paris in skeet events. Paris will be Prince’s Olympic debut.
The rifle team is also seeing a handful of returning Olympians including Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Mary Tucker. Tucker qualified in both air rifle and smallbore rifle for Paris and is looking to be back on the podium but this time to take home that coveted gold medal. Sagen Maddalena and Ivan Roe are also looking to make a podium appearance. The duo will be competing in the Mixed Team Air Rifle event. The pair make a strong team as they train and serve together at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.
The pistol team is ready for the Olympic stage and has a strong bond as three of the athletes, Katelyn Abeln, Ada Korkhin, and Henry Leverett, competed together on the Ohio State University Pistol team. Leverett is a returning Tokyo Olympian and will be competing for some hardware in Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol.
The U.S. Olympic shooting team headed to Paris has strong ties to the military with four athletes currently serving in the Army and two athletes who formerly served.
The Paralympic team is going into Paris with a strong set of athletes. All of the athletes have made appearances in at least one Paralympic Games. Mckenna Geer, a Rio 2016 bronze medalist, will be competing in her third Games. Geer, an Arlington, Washington, native, recently got back into competitive shooting after the birth of her first child. YanXiao Gong is a strong contender for a medal, as he is the 2023 World Champion in P3.
