CMP: National 3P Precision Air Rifle Championship Marked with High Scores, New Events

Camp Perry, Ohio– August 2024– The Three-Position Precision Air Rifle Championship was held before the National Matches at Camp Perry, July 8-10. Athletes who competed in this event had to qualify by shooting in the CMP state matches and CMP regional championships. There were four relays of a 3×20 match on the first and second day and the top eight places after those matches qualified for the final on the last day.

The amount of talent from these young athletes practically blew the roof off the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center over three days. Air Gun Manager, Katie Harrington noted, “The competition was fierce this year, they were all shooting very high scores.” Only 8 points separated the two-day aggregate scores of the top eight finalists. The cut-off score was 1,189 – 94 to get into the Final.

Final

The Final drew a large crowd who were initially watching with bated breath, then someone broke out the cowbell and the energy shifted from anxious to excited and the noise levels turned more energetic.

Jack Ogoreuc was in the lead early in the Final, but dropped suddenly from first to fourth, leaving room for Samuel Adkins to move into the lead. Adkins earned the gold medal, the title of Champion, and a check for $1000. Second and third place went to Camryn Camp from Hillsboro, Texas, and Makenzie Larson from Wellington, Colo., who won $750 and $500 in prize money respectively.

USA Shooting Jacket

Since Samuel was the high male athlete for the competition, he earned a place on the National Future’s Team and was presented with a USA Shooting team jacket by current member and high female athlete, Emme Walrath.

Scholarships

Earlier this year, the CMP awarded over $300,000 in scholarships for the 2024-2025 school year. Samuel Adkins, Camryn Camp, and Hailey Singleton were the top three graduating seniors at the Three-Position Air Rifle Championship and were all awarded $1000 towards their college tuition. “We were pleased to award these scholarships to the top graduating seniors to assist in their pursuit of higher education.” Harrington added, “These athletes are the future and we love to support them in their future endeavors whatever they may be.”

Team Champions
The winning team for the Championship was the Texas Hill Country Shooters with team members Camryn Camp, Elizabeth Probst, Kayla Riewe, and Briley Sralla. The top-placing scholastic team was Tallulah Falls High School from Georgia with team members Briana Walter, Leah Rogers, Chloe Erwin, and Joseph McGahee.

New Additions

In a move to continuously improve the experience of competing here at the CMP, there were several events and amenities added. Food trucks were located just outside the facility during the event to give breakfast and lunch options to the competitors and their families.

A beach party was introduced this year to add some summer fun and relaxation to the several days-long competition. “There was a fantastic turnout for the beach party,” Harrington said, “We were excited to provide some fun events for the kids to build community and have some fun.”

The party took place on the beach by the pier at Camp Perry. There was a DJ, food trucks, volleyball, cornhole, swimming, soccer, football, giveaways and fun in the sun! It was a roaring success and Harrington stated that they are excited to host the party again next year. “By providing more experiences to the athletes besides the competition, we hope it will create a more well-rounded experience for them, allow them to let loose a little, have fun, and compel them to come back again and again.”

Mark your calendars for next year’s competition, it’s sure to be even better!
