Garand Thumb took a host of proven rifles– all had at least 5K rounds through them with some as many as 15K– that were well-used and well-worn, as well as being well-maintained, then added winter conditions to see how that changed the equation. Spoiler alert, while every weapon eventually failed “in a dangerous manner,” the Steyr AUG is ugly but a snow bunny, FN should have maybe stuck with the FNC and FAL over the SCAR, while the Kalash and its Israeli offspring are unsung champs, at least early on in the test.
