Team USA Sporting Clays Win Back-to-Back World Championships

East Alton, Illinois– July 2023— The USA Sporting Clays team has been touring the world and is coming home victorious after clinching two recent international titles.

The 2023 World English Sporting Clays event held in the United Kingdom and the 2023 World FITASC event held in Hungary played host to some of the most talented sport shooters in the world.

Team USA took the field by storm, winning the overall team competition in the Men’s Senior, Lady, and Men’s Junior Divisions at both the World English and World FITASC event. As the official ammunition of Team USA, Winchester continued its high-level support of the top sport shooters in the world, supplying the famous AA® shotshells to all team members.

“The excitement of the shooting sports is on full display at this highly regarded international event and it’s an honor to represent the United States of America with my teammates,” said Anthony Matarese, Jr., Captain of the Men’s Senior Team and member of Team Winchester. “We were extremely impressed with the targets, staff and opportunity to compete.”

World English Event Highlights—

Long-time All-American Mike Wilgus solidified the Runner Up position in the Super Sporting event while his 16-year-old daughter, Kayla, clinched 4 different medals including Lady High Overall in the Super Sporting event and achieving 3rd overall in the Lady category. Joe Fanizzi took home top honors as the Main Event Junior champion, Desirae ‘Desi’ Edmunds was Runner Up in the Lady division and Zach Kienbaum finished as the Prelim Champion.

  • Mike Wilgus: Super Sporting Runner Up
  • Kayla Wilgus: Overall Ladies 3rd, Super Sporting Ladies High Gun, Prelim Colts High Gun, Sport Trap Colt Runner Up
  • Joe Fanizzi: Main Junior HOA, Prelim Junior 3rd
  • Zach Kienbaum: Team USA 1st Place, Prelim High Gun
  • Eric Harvey: Team USA 1st Place
  • Anthony Matarese: Team USA 1st Place
  • Connor Daniel: Prelim Colts 2nd

*Colt is the European equivalent to Sub-Junior in the United States and includes anyone under the age of 16 in January of the competitive season.

The next main sporting clays competition is the Western Regional in Colorado August 2-6, which is the fourth of six total regional shoots that make up the NSCA Championship Tour, Powered by Winchester. The season finale takes place this October in San Antonio, Texas at the 2023 NSCA National Championship where a new National Champion and Winchester Ladies Cup Champion will be crowned.
