Hillsdale College Action Shooting Team Wins National Titles

Talladega, Alabama– April 2024– The Hillsdale Action Shooting Team earned several accolades at the Scholastic Action Shooting Program’s College Nationals securing a first-place finish in the Centerfire Optic division, second and third place in the Centerfire Pistol division, and second and third place in the 1911 division. This is the team’s third year competing in the event.

“We are very happy with the results. Hillsdale College continues to make a name for itself in the competitive shooting world because our students are dedicated and talented,” said Adam Burlew, head action shooting coach.

Individual shooters also earned high honors. Among male shooters, Zech Steiger (’24) placed first in the Centerfire Optic division, second in the 1911 division, and third in the Centerfire division. Adam Bentley (’24) placed third in the Centerfire Optic division. Eli Hudson (’25) placed third in the 1911 division. Among female shooters, Kayla Mullin (’27) placed third in the Ladies 1911 division, and Christina Lewis (’26) placed third in the Centerfire Pistol division.

“Interest in the competitive shooting sports is growing all across the country, and I think our students’ repeated success in them makes Hillsdale College an important force in their development and popularity,” said Rich Péwé, chief administrative officer. “This success is due to the hard work and commitment of the coaches and team, the new Ailes Action Shooting Range, and Springfield Armory’s strong, continued support.”

The Action Shooting Team practices at the Ailes Action Shooting Range at the John Anthony Halter Center Shooting Sports Education Center. The range features four 30-yard pistol bays, a 40-yard pistol bay, and a 100-yard rifle range. It was completed in 2022.
