Hillsdale, Michigan– July 2026 — Hillsdale College’s John A. Halter Shooting Sports Education Center hosted the 2026 USA Shooting Shotgun National Junior Olympic Championships June 25-30. Four Hillsdale students took home medals, and two earned spots on the Junior Olympic Squad.

“It was an honor to open our world-class facility to some of the country’s top young shotgun athletes,” said Matt Little, range director at the Halter Center. “We are excited to see what our students, and all of the competitors, go on to accomplish.”
The championships, held June 25-27 for trap and June 28-30 for skeet, brought together more than 100 athletes from across the country who had qualified in State Junior Olympic matches.
Four Hillsdale students took home seven medals at the competition:
Roman Barrett ’29: gold for overall junior men’s trap, silver for collegiate men’s trap
Marin McKinney ’28: silver for overall junior women’s trap, gold for collegiate women’s trap
Cameron Roberts ’30: gold for overall junior men’s skeet, silver for collegiate men’s skeet
Zach Hinze ’29: gold for collegiate men’s skeet
Barrett also earned a spot on the Junior Olympic Squad for trap, and Roberts earned a spot on the Junior Olympic Squad for skeet.
“A spot on the Junior Olympic Squad comes with fantastic opportunities,” said head shotgun coach Jordan Hintz. “It is rewarding to see our students’ dedication and training pay off on the national stage.”
About the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center
The Halter Center is a state-of-the-art shooting facility located five miles from the Hillsdale College campus. The Center boasts 125 range acres, four international skeet fields, a 25-station sporting clays course, eight American trap fields, five international bunkers, an action shooting range, an enclosed and climate-controlled five-stand range, an international archery range, and a 62,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor rifle and pistol building. The Center is also home to the AcuSport Lodge and Grille and six cottages to accommodate overnight lodging.
Opened in 2008, the Center aims to introduce individuals to shooting sports and encourage interest across all levels of experience. The home of the USA Shooting National Team since 2019, the Halter Center hosts USA Shooting skeet and trap nationals and Junior Olympic development camps and championships. The Center is also the home of Hillsdale’s national championship-winning shotgun and action shooting teams. The Center is open to the public, offering range memberships as well as classes, camps, and other programming focused on the shooting sports and the principles of the Constitution.
